The sound project my project partner and I created was about a women checking into a hotel and getting stuck on an elevator.
We approached the sound project by using multiple layers of sound to achieve the atmosphere needed for the audience to comprehend what was happening in the story. We used sound effects, music, background noise, and a small amount of dialogue to convey the story we were trying to tell. We needed to be able to tell our story without any visuals, so we were careful and tried to look at as many details as possible. For example, we used specific footsteps when the protagonist was in different places. When she was outside, we added the effect of concrete, and once she walked in inside, we added a more echoey foot step to indicate she was in a large place with tile floor.
Here is the layers of our project!
My partner and I also had to brainstorm other sound effects that added to the ambiance of the scene. For example, the sound of elevator music to indicate she was on it. We tried to convey the character was panicking by adding the sound of heavy breathing. Before the big climax we also added humming to translate to the listeners that she was calm before getting stuck, which conveyed the character's shift of feelings. We used foley for certain sounds to make them sound more realistic. It also allowed us to control the pace to the sound.
